About Me
Hello! My name is Benjamin Portillo, and I am currently working as a Financial Aid Software Specialist at a community college. I was born and raised in Houston, TX. I've been married to my wife for over 5 years and we have 3 beautiful children who like to keep us busy. My favorite hobby is playing guitar which I have been playing for over 15 years. I am a choir coordinator at our local church and I love teaching people how to play music.

My higher education career started back in 2016 when I began to work in IT managing and troubleshooting all types of technologies across 3 campuses. Working with staff from various departments gave me a better understanding of how all departments need each other to function as one to help students achieve their goals. Taking on this new role in Financial Aid allows me to work directly with staff and help them by keeping our systems up to date to allow a smoother process for federal aid for students who apply.

Technology has always sparked my interest since I can remember. I always wanted a career that dealt with working on computers and learning how they worked. In my current position, I work on the back end of things and make sure that our processes are working normally which as many tell me "I work from the shadows". Entering the Master's in Applied Digital Learning, I look forward to creating and innovating technologies that can further my learning which I can carry on in the future.
