This week presented challenges and reflections when it came to creating my Learning Manifesto. This process has been both challenging and rewarding as it pushed me to articulate my beliefs, values, and principles when it came to digital learning and innovation. Creating this manifesto created the foundation of how I aim to make a lasting impact within my organization by bringing automation to Banner for financial aid.
What I learned was that a manifesto helps capture what matters most and serves as a tool for decision making. In writing this manifesto, it gave me an opportunity to present my passion for digital transformation and dig deeper on the “why” behind my work and establish a framework for future initiatives. The focus on streamlining processes in Banner or adopting new technologies is not the only goal but to empower people along the journey.
My biggest challenge came when I got feedback from the draft I presented to my group. I thought I had a pretty good grasp on the assignment, but I had veered off the wrong way. My group member Lydia mentioned that I was presenting the points about the manifesto more towards the organization than being personal to me. I was glad that she pointed that out, which helped me go back to the drawing board and revise my points and begin to rephrase them differently. I do admit that at the moment, it brought me down to know I was not going in the right direction, but I was able to push through and create a learning manifesto that’s personal to me.
In writing this learning manifesto, it taught me a few lessons such as the value of reflection. Rewriting my manifesto allowed me to rethink my beliefs and aspirations, which gave me a better understanding of my motivations for improvement. In taking EDLD 5304, it also gave me a better understanding of leadership which can be a driving force for change to be effective in the organization. Even though this manifesto is personal to me, the purpose is for it reach out to other people who also share the common goal to innovate change.
