Starting this journey into the master’s program felt overwhelming at first due to the creative freedom we get in creating an E-portfolio. I’m used to having structure where we would get the work and follow directions in completing an assignment and move on to the next. Coming into this course has allowed me to start thinking outside the box and express myself creatively. Numerous questions flowed into my mind when I started this course. Where do I begin? What platform do I use? Will it be good enough? I began to realize that setting these limitation on myself wouldn’t help me with my growth mindset. When I met my group, I realized that I wasn’t the only with worries and frustrations in starting the E-portfolio. We all have the growth mindset to break those barriers and realize our true potential.
In creating an E-portfolio, I began researching the various platforms that could do what I needed. From platforms such as Wordpress, Canva, Wix, I found that Wix was more user friendly and easy to navigate. One of the advantages of using Wix was that I was able to use the built in AI to tell it what I wanted to have on my E-portfolio and it generated a custom profile in which I could go in and begin to customize.
Some tips and tricks that I can offer from a beginner to another beginner is to use Youtube to access vast amounts of tutorials which show you how to customize your E-portfolio. Talking with my group was also a good way to get feedback and to ask questions when I felt stuck when it came to choosing a platform and setting it up. There are various websites that focus on creating E-portfolio’s and offer vast information on tools to use to create and customize your profile.
Learning to be patient while creating the portfolio is something I must work on. Focusing on the journey is the best lesson to learn to see the fruits of my labor at the end. It's not about choosing a specific platform to do the work but to find something that I'm comfortable with and using the tools to meet these requirements (Todd, 2019). The challenges to starting this E-portfolio is learning the interface and setting it up the way you want to. I’m most proud of by not letting these frustrations limit me and begin to research to find the answers I need.
